Overall Crime Increases in County
The crimes increase by about 10 percent in the areas served by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department during the first two months of 2012.
While homicides decreased by 30 percent in the areas served by the during the first two months of 2012, overall crime increased by about 10 percent, according to figures released Wednesday.
Violent crimes increased 6.14 percent and other serious crimes increased by 10.9 percent, compared to the same period in 2011.
There were 49 homicides reported in January and February, the fewest for the first two months of a year since 1965, when the population was smaller and down by 56 percent compared to five years ago.
