Man Found Dead at Bottom of Cliff in PVE

Police are investigating whether the body is that of a reported missing person.

Police are investigating whether a body found at the bottom of a cliff in Palos Verdes Estates Monday morning is that of a man who was reported missing in Redondo Beach.

On Sunday, police initially found an unoccupied, illegally parked car in the 1300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West and decided to run the car's license plates, according to Palos Verdes Estates police Sgt. Tony Gonzalez.

When officers ran the plates, a "critical missing" person report from Redondo Beach came back. Upon receiving the notification, Gonzalez said officers searched the immediate area but could not find anyone.

The Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol, along with a helicopter from the Sheriff's Department, also aided in the search Sunday night with no results.

On Monday morning, Gonzalez said the search team returned and found a body at the bottom of a 150 to 200-foot cliff near the shoreline in the 1400 block of Paseo del Mar.

Police said it is not yet confirmed whether the body belongs to the reported missing person in Redondo Beach.

"We did find a body out there but we can't even confirm if that is the missing person out there," Gonzalez said.

Police are now waiting on fingerprint results from the coroner to positively identify the man.
