Man Accused of Robbing RPV Mausoleum

A Redondo Beach man is charged with burglary in connection with thefts at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.

A 21-year-old Redondo Beach man was charged with burglary Friday, just days after deputies arrested him for trying to steal items from a mausoleum in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Deputies arrested James R. Haggstrom on Wednesday morning after a witness spotted him trying to open a glass niche in the Pacifica North Court Mausoleum at in RPV, according to a news release from the . There have been three similar thefts at Green Hills Memorial Park in recent weeks, deputies said.

According to the release, when deputies arrived, Haggstrom was near the niche, which is used for storing personal property of the deceased. At the time of his arrest, Haggstrom had burglary tools and items believed to be taken from the dead in the mausoleum, according to the release.

Lomita sheriff’s detectives later found other items believed to be stolen at Haggstrom's home.

Haggstrom is currently on probation for burglary.
