LASD: Keep Kids Safe During Crime Prevention Month

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department offers tips on how to keep kids safe.

To recognize a month devoted to crime prevention, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department this week issued tips for staying safe.

Here are the LASD's safety tips for kids this National Crime Prevention Month:

  • Know where your children are.
  • Help children learn important phone numbers.
  • Set limits on where your children can go in your neighborhood.
  • Get to know your children's friends
  • Choose a safe house in your neighborhood.
  • Teach children to settle arguments with words, not fists.
  • Work together with your neighbors. Watch out for suspicious and unusual behavior in your neighborhood.
  • Start a new Neighborhood Crime Watch Group or re-activate an old one.

Contact a local sheriff's station with information about criminal activity. Call L.A. Crime Stoppers with anonymous tips at 800-222-8477, or text the letters TIPLA plus the tip to CRIMES (274637), or use http://lacrimestoppers.org.
