LASD: A Look at the Year's Crime Statistics
Homicides decrease in the county Sheriff's Department area, but overall crime increases in the first month of the year compared to last year.
Overall reported crime in the areas patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in January increased by 7.09 percent from January 2011, according to preliminary figures released Monday.
Overall violent crime increased by 1.63 percent and property crimes by 8.39 percent, the department reported.
There were 11 homicides in January in the 42 cities and unincorporated areas patrolled by the department, compared to 15 in January 2011, a 20 percent decrease.

Violent crimes were down 24.95 percent, serious property crime by 10.33 percent and overall crime 13.35 percent in January when compared to January 2007.
