Girl Rescued Off Cliff, Critically Injured at Point Fermin Park

A 10-year-girl is rescued after falling 10 to 20 feet down a cliff and receiving injuries to her head, officials say.

A 10-year-old was critically injured Saturday when she fell down a cliff at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, a city fire official said.

The incident was reported at 3 p.m. near Sunken City Trail, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The girl was with family heading down the trail when she fell about 15 to 20 feet down the cliff, striking her head on the rocks, Humphrey said.

Rescuers retrieved the child and she was taken alive and conscious when taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Humphrey said. She was listed in critical condition.

The adults with the girl were uninjured, Humphrey said.

It was unknown how or why the child fell.
