A county lifeguard boat crew rescued five youngsters who got stuck on rugged rocks in Abalone Cove off Rancho Palos Verdes this afternoon.

Inspector Keith Mora of the county fire department said the lifeguard boat backed into the cove and lifeguards swam to the stranded swimmers about 3:40 p.m. at Inspiration Point.

Mora said there have been a couple of similar rescues over the last couple of days.

"Tides are heavier than usual and people are underestimating the riptides and get swept out further than they thought they'd be," he said.
