Fireworks Still Illegal in Palos Verdes

Even so-called "safe and sane" fireworks are banned on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Before Fourth of July plans are finalized, residents of the Palos Verdes are reminded that fireworks are illegal in Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and unincorporated county areas.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department encourages residents to attend professionally produced fireworks shows. A map of fireworks shows in Los Angeles County is available here.

The U.S. Consumer Product Commission reports that an average of 200 people are sent to the emergency room daily with fireworks-related injuries during the July 4 holiday.

Violating fireworks laws can result in fines up to $500 and up to a year of jail time, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Reporting illegal fireworks is encouraged and can be done anonymously through lacrimestoppers.org or by calling 800-222-TIPS.
