Diver Dies off Rancho Palos Verdes Coast

The man was snorkeling off Terranea Cove when he started experiencing shortness of breath.

A man died Sunday morning at the beach below Terranea Resort, authorities said.

According to Lt. Judy Anderson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lomita Station, the man was snorkeling below the cliffs off the coast of Rancho Palos Verdes when he experienced shortness of breath.

He was able to drag himself out of the water and call for help, Anderson said.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call of a person down at Terranea Cove at about 9:45 a.m., and paramedics arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later, LACoFD Inspector Anthony Akins told Patch.

About three minutes later, paramedics called for a helicopter, which airlifted the man from the beach to the upper parking lot, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The Daily Breeze reported that the diver—who authorities only identified to Patch as a man in his 40s—was swimming with a friend.
