CHP to Up Patrols During Labor Day Weekend

A 'maximum enforcement period' will begin at 6 p.m. tonight and end at 11:59 p.m. Monday. There are also checkpoints planned throughout the region.

Drivers out and about this Labor Day weekend might see more law enforcement officials on the roads as the California Highway Patrol deploys more officers to look for drunk drivers and others breaking traffic laws.

The CHP will begin a "maximum enforcement period" from 6 p.m. tonight until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said.

"Celebrate the Labor Day weekend, but remember to celebrate safely," Farrow said. "There is no excuse for driving while intoxicated. Designate a non-drinking driver before you head out, and always ensure that everyone in the vehicle is buckled up."
