Burglars Target Wealthy Neighborhoods, Beach Communities

A recently formed multi-agency task force aims to combat the rash of property of crimes.

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, burglars may be targeting wealthy neighborhoods and beach communities.

Sources tell the LA Times that there was a surge in burglaries since Thanksgiving and that burglars have been hitting areas like Pacific Palisades, Bel-Air, Playa Vista and Brentwood.

As a result, the Glendale Police Department, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department have formed a multiagency task force that will target burglars throughout Southern California, the LA Times reported.

According to the LA Times' map, Ranchos Palos Verdes has a per capita property crime rate of 89.6 per 10,000 residents. The rate is based on a total of 370 property crimes committed from Sept. 5, 2011 to March 4. Figures are based on areas policed by the LAPD and L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
