2 Sentenced in Death of Pats II Bouncer

Frank Cobarruvias and Rene Anthony Avina pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Terie Colecchi outside Pats II Cocktails.

Two men charged in connection with the beating death of a bouncer at Pats II Cocktails in South Redondo Beach in June were sentenced Thursday to state prison terms, the Daily Breeze reported.

Francisco "Frank" Cobarruvias, 35, of Redondo Beach and Rene Anthony Avina, 23, of Carson were accused of beating Torrance resident Terie Colecchi, 49, in front of the bar where he worked. The incident happened at about 1:40 a.m. June 2.

The fight was captured by a nearby surveillance camera. Colecchi died after the fight at a local hospital.

Both Cobarruvias and Avina pleaded no contest to charges of voluntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement. Cobarruvias received 6 years in state prison, while Avina was sentenced to 11 years.

If convicted of murder, the men could have been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

According to the Daily Breeze, Avina's sentence was longer due to a prior assault conviction.

So in a few years when the small portion of the eleven years that will be served is up, he will be free to do it again for the third time? How would you feel if you were the bouncers wife or kids? What a joke those sentances are!

WOW, so THAT'S what another person's life is worth...6 years...hmmm. What has the world come to - THEY BEAT HIM TO DEATH!!! and THAT is why Law-Abiding Citizen is one of my FAVORITE movies...DISGUSTING! So, one guy will be out when he's 41 and the other guy will be out when he's 34 and Terie Colecchi will still be dead. And the two criminals will probably come out as even more disgusting, non-contributing, waste-of-life, violent human beings than they are now. SHAMEFUL...

Why was a lesser charge of Involuntary Manslaughter even offered? A plea deal for this murder is just wrong - wrong, wrong, wrong! These twisted perpetrators incited a fight with intent to cause harm to another human being. "Oh, gee, Judge, I only meant to put him in the hospital, didn't mean to kill him. Give me a break and I promise I won't do it again." That makes it okay? Not delivering the harshest punishment allowed under the law for this tragic and senseless death is morally reprehensible.

The reason they came to a plea is because if the case was taken to trial they had a chance of getting off scott free due to the medical charts. The Coroner results state he had a toxic amount of drugs in his system and they say that if he wasnt on any drugs that he could of survived that beating. Personally I feel that is a ridiculous theory bc who is to say that is true? He died from three things- blunt force, toxic drugs in system, overlarged heart. Now if the case went with a jury then a medical doctor could have stated this to be the cause of death and they could of gotten off scott free. So the only way to make sure they do any time is to come to an plea agreement. I think its awful and they both were laughing without any remorse. SICK!!
