1,500+ Arrested in DUI Crackdown So Far
The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department and Lomita Sheriffs are participating in the annual crackdown.
Since Dec. 13, law enforcement officers in 100 Los Angeles County jurisdictions have made 1,520 drunken or drugged driving arrests as of Christmas Day, up from 1,425 during the same time period last year.
It was not clear how many of those arrests occurred in Palos erdes.
The anti-DUI effort, involving checkpoints and directed patrols, runs through New Year's Day. A blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent is considered too drunk to drive.

The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department and Lomita Sheriffs will continue their participation in the crackdown through Wednesday as part of the Avoid the 100 DUI Task Force, according to an email from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
According to some estimates, a first-time drunken driving conviction, can cost up to $10,000, including bail, fines, legal fees and increased insurance costs. In some cases, vehicles can be towed and impounded for up to 30 days, though rules vary from one jurisdiction to another.
