Saint Rocke celebrates 50th Anniversary of Beatlemania on Nov. 17 with Abbey Road

With the 50th Anniversary of Beatlemania only a few months away, nationally touring Beatles tribute, Abbey Road, brings their three costume change show to Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach on Sunday, November 17.

In early 1964, News In Brief put it this way: “There are rumors abound that the [Beatles] are Britain’s revenge for the Boston Tea Party.”

In mid-December 1964, “I Want to Hold Your Hand” began playing on U.S. radio stations. Two months later, Liverpool’s Beatles first set foot in New York and charmed America at their first press conference, but the British Invasion officially began when the Fab Four sang four of their original songs (“All My Loving, “She Loves You,” I Saw Her Standing There” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand) on the February 9th airing of The Ed Sullivan Show. This performance alone captivated 60 percent of the American viewing audience and before you could say “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!” Beatlemania swept the country.

Within a matter of weeks, the Beatles went from complete unknowns to household names in the U.S. At one point in the spring, the band held down all top five positions on the Billboard “Hot 100,” a feat not accomplished before or since.

With their tight harmonies, flawless note for note renditions of Beatles hits, custom–tailored costumes, vintage instruments, Liverpudlian dialect and precise attention to every detail, Abbey Road has honed their show to become one of the most musically and visually satisfying Beatle tribute acts in the world.

Three costume changes cover the full range of the Beatle experience and beyond, with authentic early black Beatle suits, Sgt. Pepper’s regalia and Abbey Road attire. Hear the piccolo trumpet solo on Penny Lane and the full orchestration of A Day in the Life. Relive the emotional intensity of Paul’s moving Yesterday solo, as well as the high energy of stadium songs like Twist and Shout and other Beatle hits.

The four musicians cast to play John, Paul, George and Ringo were selected from 220 Beatle tribute musicians, most of whom showed up for auditions in costume and in character. The band features Chris Paul Overall ("Paul"), Gregory Wilmot ("John"), Jesse Wilder ("George") and Axel Clarke ("Ringo").
