RPV election LETTERS TO THE EDITOR pvnews.com

Why I’m voting to re-elect Brian Campbell to the RPV council. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Brian Campbell for several years now in various community volunteer activities and in his capacity as an RPV City Councilman. As an old CPA and now IT executive for a Fortune 500 company, I am extremely impressed with his knowledge of municipal budgets, finances, pay, pension issues and how local taxes, fees and the other costs that are passed on to the taxpayers here in Rancho Palos Verdes add up. I am particularly impressed with how he led the policy initiatives to expand city transparency, the volunteer city Finance Advisory Committee to ensure better oversight of city financial issues and the almost unheard of success he has had on the city Solid Waste Sub-committee (with Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Duhovic) of reducing our city waste hauling bills from Edco and Universal. When was the last time a California city reduced costs of anything for its citizens without also cutting services? All of RPV should be proud of this.

Brian has been the council leader in leveraging his involvement in organizations like the League of California Cities, the CA Joint Powers Insurance Agency and the California Contract Cities Association. He regularly leads City Council discussions to ensure that city staff answers important questions ranging from crime prevention, public infrastructure improvements, city finances and overall city government transparency. These are fundamental expectations that all citizens should expect of our elected officials.

Last but not least, he is widely respected as a smart, good-natured community leader that brings people and organizations together in a positive way that makes those he interacts with want to get more involved in the community. Thanks Brian!
