Brews News: New Beer Classes in El Segundo

Class is in session next Tuesday at El Segundo Brewing Company as head brewer Tom Kelley will be leading classes focused on beer for both beer nerds and novices alike.

Kelley is Cicerone certified (think a sommelier for beer) and will focus his first class at the brewery on "how to store, serve and taste beer ... properly."

"Let a professional guide you through and enhance your ability to enjoy your favorite beverage ... Plus, learn a few party tricks," El Segundo Brewing advertised.

Classes are $20 and include a flight of beers and world class education. Class begins at 6:45 p.m. and lasts around 30 minutes according to the brewers.

Future classes will be held every other Tuesday. Future topics and dates include:

• February 5 | Hops and Their Journey From Europe to California
• February 19 | Five Classic Belgian Styles and Their Origins
• March 5 | Barrel Aged Beers: Why Are You So Delicious?

Naja's will host the award winning Firestone Brewing Company tonight (Thursday) with a Tap Takeover and Pint Night.

Naja's said there will be multiple Firestone beers on tap for the event including:

A raffle will also be held with the chance to win prizes from the brewery.

In addition to beer classes starting next week, El Segundo will be tapping a cask of White Dog IPA with passion fruit Friday, Jan. 18 starting at 5 p.m. Pints of this special beer will go for $4 all night.

If the beer lasts until Saturday, El Segundo will do "progressive pricing" for pints:

• $2 from 2-3 p.m.
• $3 from 3-4 p.m.
• $4 from 4 p.m. to close
