Services Set for Joan Moe, Norris Co-Founder

Services are scheduled for Joan Moe, co-founder of the Norris Theatre, who died Saturday after a battle with cancer.

Joan Hurst Moe, one of the co-founders of the Norris Theatre, died Saturday after a 13-year battle with breast cancer. She was 78.

Moe, a longtime resident of Rolling Hills Estates and a former planning commissioner, established the nonprofit organization that eventually led to the establishment of the Norris with Agnes Moss. The theater itself opened in September 1983 after six years of fundraising.

"She changed people's lives and she made things happen," her daughter, Julie Moe-Reynolds, told the Daily Breeze. "She had the vision and ability to accomplish anything she set her mind to, come heck or high water."

Moe also helped establish bicycle lanes in Rolling Hills Estates and get the median built on Hawthorne Boulevard, according to the Daily Breeze.

A public memorial service and celebration of life for Moe are set for Monday at the Harylne J. Norris Pavilion, located at 501 Indian Peak Road in Rolling Hills Estates. The service will begin at 2 p.m. and will be followed by the celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Joan Moe Memorial Fund and mailed to the following address:

Joan Moe Memorial Fund
c/o The Norris Center for the Performing Arts
27570 Norris Center Drive
Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274

Moe is survived by her daughter, Moe-Reynolds; her son, Steven Moe; and four grandchildren.
