Palos Verdes Marathon Changes Course

The event this year will be changed to include only a half-marathon and 5K run and walk.

Rising costs have forced the Palos Verdes Marathon this year to cut back, turning the event into a community fundraiser with a half-marathon and 5k run and walk instead of the usual 26.2-mile race, according to a Daily Breeze report.

High traffic control costs will be cut at this year's event on May 19 because of the halved route length, according to the report.

This year, more casual runners and walkers are expected at the event, The Daily Breeze reported, and local school challenges have been added.
