Land Conservancy Elects New Board President

Bruce Biesman-Simons is elected president of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Board of Directors.

Architect Bruce Biesman-Simons was chosen as the new president of the Board of Directors, the organization announced this week.

“Bruce’s longtime experience with the Land Conservancy, passion for the region’s open spaces and creativity in working with communities will go far in our efforts to protect critical open space and increase the appreciation of preserved lands,” Land Conservancy Executive Director Andrea Vona said in a statement.

Biesman-Simons has an architecture firm in San Pedro. He's worked on projects such as EuroDisneyland’s Entertainment Center, as well as those for the Land Conservancy. He succeeds Ken Swenson.

Biesman-Simons said in a statement the PVPLC will focus on trails, public access and restoration of native habitat "that is so crucial to this unique corner of L.A. County."

"Our community certainly 'gets it,' and together we are well-equipped to take on the challenge," he said.

Biesman-Simons joined the PVPLC Board in 2000. He's held the offices of secretary or executive vice president for much of his time on the board, according to the PVPLC. He was also a founding member of the White Point Nature Preserve Steering Committee.

Biesman-Simons attended the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and graduated from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles.
