Handmade Especially for You makes comfort scarves for abused women. In 2012, we made 12,000 scarves and donated them to 60 shelters for abused women throughout Southern California. We need more knitters, crocheters, yarn and donations. If you want to participate, you can pick up free yarn at Concepts in Yarn (Hillside Village in Torrance), and participate in our kit making sessions and wrapping parties (schedule posted on our website: www.handmadeespecially.org). Tuesdays are for kit making; Wednesday evenings are for scarfing; and every other Thursday is for wrapping.
Most of the abused women who receive our scarves have never before received a personal gift. Our scarves are powerful. Shelter directors tell us the women are amazed that someone they don't even know has made something so beautiful for them. The directors use this moment to encourage the women to begin the education and therapy that will help them change their lives.
