Time is running out for people who plan to support the Peninsula Education Foundation by participating in the annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk on Sunday.
The walk, which benefits the Friendship Circle and local education foundations, runs from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back—a 3.4-mile journey.
People have until 11:59 p.m. Saturday to register online at skechersfriendshipwalk.com. Once registered, they can designate a specific charity—such as PEF—as well as join a school team.
The entire $25 registration fee is donated to a person's designated charity, and schools receive additional funds in proportion to the number of people who choose to join their teams.
"We're now at two-thirds of our goal for the walk," PEF executive director Andrea Sala said earlier this week in a news release. "We could really use everyone's help.
Last year, the walk raised $105,000 for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.
The walk begins at 9 a.m. People in Palos Verdes who pre-registered can check in Saturday at the Skechers store at Equinox Gym in Rolling Hills Estates. Walkers can also check-in at the Skechers stores in Manhattan Beach (corner of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Manhattan Avenue), Torrance (Del Amo Mall) and Redondo Beach (South Bay Galleria).
Same-day registration will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. Sunday in the Manhattan Beach Pier's lower parking lot off Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
