Trade in Old Holiday Lights for Free LED Strands

To receive the free LED holiday lights, customers can turn in up to two strands of incandescent holiday lights.

Southern California Edison customers in Palos Verdes looking to save money on their holiday electric bills can snag two complimentary strands of LED holiday lights on Tuesday and Wednesday at the South Bay Environmental Services Center.

Marilyn Lyon, a representative of the SBESC, told Patch that as of mid-afternoon Tuesday, about 170 SCE customers had exchanged strands of incandescent holiday lights for the new, energy efficient LED strands.

She advised people to come early to the center, which is located at 20285 S. Western Ave., Suite 100 in Torrance, to exchange their lights if they plan to do it Wednesday. The exchange begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m. or until supplies last. The SBESC has enough lights for 250 customers.

She suggested people call 310-371-7222 to make sure lights are still available before journeying to the SBESC. People should bring their driver's license or a copy of their SCE electric bill.

"When (customers) come into our center, not only do they get to exchange their lights, but we give them information about all the rest of our environmental programs about how to save water, energy and gas," Lyon said.

The exchange has been an annual program since 2007.
