Scouts Holding Canned Food Drive

The city of Rolling Hills Estates is lending a hand to local Scouts' food drive.

As part of the Annual Scout Food Drive put on by the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts at Dapplegray Elementary School, the city of Rolling Hills Estates will be collecting canned food at city hall through Dec. 20, according to a news release from the city.

"Every year, these Scouts work hard to collect canned and non-perishable food for the Food for Kids program, which provides meals for disadvantaged children who rely on school food programs to eat during the week," according to the release. "Last year, the Scouts collected 2,000 pounds of food for this program, and they hope to exceed that amount this year."

The city provided the following list of suggested food items to donate:

  • Spaghetti and meatballs - 15-ounce can
  • Beef ravioli - 15-ounce can
  • Pears - 10-ounce can
  • Green beans - 15-ounce can
  • Sliced peaches - 10-ounce can
  • Peanut butter - 12-ounce jar
  • Baked beans - 10-ounce can
  • Black beans - 15-ounce can
  • Pinto beans - 10-ounce can
  • Oatmeal - 16-ounce box
  • Macaroni and cheese - 7.25-ounce box
  • Chunk light tuna in water - 5-ounce can
  • Beef stew - 15-ounce can
  • Sweet peas - 14.5-ounce can
  • Whole kernel corn - 15-ounce can
  • Nonfat dry milk - 6-ounce package
  • Applesauce - 15-ounce can
  • Dried fruit
  • Small cartons of packaged fruit juice

RHE City Hall is located at 4050 Palos Verdes Drive North. Donations can also be dropped off at Dapplegray Elementary, located at 3011 Palos Verdes Drive North.
