PVE Couple Gives $50M to Local Hospital

A married couple from Palos Verdes Estates have given $50 million to Torrance Memorial Medical Center to help complete its new main patient care tower, the hospital announced Saturday.

Melanie and Richard Lundquist announced the donation at Friday's 30th Annual Holiday Festival Gala.

"This surprise gift is a game-changer for our hospital, one that will shape the future of the health we provide to the communities of the South Bay for generations to come," said Craig Leach, the hospital's president.

Five smaller hospitals in the area have closed in recent years, he said, and the Torrance hospital has been pressed to add facilities.

The new tower, already under construction, will have 256 private rooms, 18 surgical and interventional treatment rooms, and state of the art technology in its seven floors.

The Lundquists are identified as a philanthropists who have supported various educational and health care initiatives in the South Bay.
