SK8 the Hill: Four Hours of Fun

Skateboarders gather Saturday in Rolling Hills Estates.

Ernie Howlett Park in Rolling Hills Estates hosted a four-hour skateboard session called SK8 the Hill on Saturday. Beachsports.org provided the equipment. They provide skateboard day camps at Ernie Howlett during the summer and on spring and winter break weeks.

Rails, ramps and grindboxes gave the local skaters a chance for a great session. Local pro skater Kenny Anderson was on hand to skate with the kids. He autographed Skateboarder Magazine with a photo of him skating in China on the cover.

Not only were the skaters on hand, but their families, too. Two gourmet food trucks, Breezy Freeze Sno Cones and Twist Burgers were on hand to provide lunch and dessert.

A free drawing made possible by Girl Skateboards, Spy, and Globe, was held. The top prize was a Kenny Anderson Chocolate skate deck. Nine-year-old James Maxwell took the autographed deck home with him.

This event was also made possible by the nonprofit, Skatepark PV, Inc. The group has a mission to provide a safe and welcoming venue for skaters to practice their sport. The group believes that our community has a responsibility to provide a space where we can keep skaters out of harm's way. To learn more about Skatepark PV, Inc., please click here.
