Weekend: Remembering 9/11
Events in the South Bay area this weekend include a vigil and memorial service to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Why go: Visit Rev. Maitreya Bhagavan Friend's Empty Chair Memorial and pay respects to those lost in the 9/11 tragedy, as well as America's fighting men and women who have given their lives for the country.

Where and when: Wherever you are; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday
Why go: Throughout the nation, first responders, houses of worship, and other establishments will sound sirens and bells every hour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as a sign to stop and remember victims of 9/11.

Where and when: , 6410 Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes; 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Why go: Listen to "Requiem" by Johannes Brahms. "Requiem," which has a theme of grief turned to hope, will be presented by a choir of 100 voices and an orchestra of 38 players.

Where and when: Ernie Howlett Park, 25851 Hawthorne Blvd., Rolling Hills Estates; Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Why go: Head over to the park this weekend and celebrate this long-standing equestrian tradition. Besides the show, other activities include a petting zoo, pony rides and face painting. Friday is free admission.
Price: Friday, free; Saturday and Sunday, $5.
Where and when: Seaside Lagoon, 200 Portofino Way, Redondo Beach; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Raising money for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the annual D-Man Festival is named for South Bay surfer Darren D-Man Marsee, who died from the disease in 2005. Line up includes performances from Tomorrows Bad Seeds, The Black Pacific, Hoist the Colors and more.

Where and when: Trinity Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Rowell Ave., Manhattan Beach; 2 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Poghosyan, who made her Carnegie Hall debut at the young age of 23, comes to the South Bay for a series of classical concerts. Saturday, she'll play in Manhattan Beach as part of Trinity Lutheran's 10 Year Anniversary of "The Previews" concerts; Sunday, the pianist heads over to Rancho Palos Verdes to partake in the "Sundays at Two" musical series.

Where and when: Saint Rocke, 142 Pacific Coast Hwy., Hermosa Beach; 9 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Listen to this high-energy rock tribute act to Van Halen. Opening sets by Stone Temple Co-Pilots (an STP tribute), Without Warning and Thunderchief. Ages 21 and over.
