Weekend Planner: Chalk Art Show to Transform Redondo Pier

Enjoy these last few weeks of summer with a photography show, chalk art festival, sidewalk sale and more.

Where/When: Downtown Manhattan Beach; Friday-Sunday

Why Go: The shops of Downtown Manhattan Beach will feature amazing items on their sidewalks. Have lunch at any one of the area's great restaurants, browse the wares, stroll along the beach and try not to think about September being right around the corner.

CHALK ART FESTIVAL AND DOLPHIN DASH

Where/When: Redondo Beach Pier, 100 Fishermans Wharf, Redondo Beach; Saturday, noon

Why Go: Art, music and fun come together to transform Redondo Beach Pier into a stunning concrete canvas. Go ahead and make your own mark with colorful chalk. Immediately following the festival, at 4:30 p.m. check out the Dolphin Dash and see which little dolphin makes it around the pier first (proceeds benefit the Redondo Beach Library).

Where/When: Brixton, 100 Fishermans Wharf, Redondo Beach; Friday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: The Beatles and the Rolling Stones come together as two of rock's greatest acts get the tribute treatment this Saturday. Ages 21 and up.

ENCELADUS - A DAY IN THE LIFE

Where/When: , The Promenade on the Peninsula, 550 Deep Valley Drive, Suite 261, Rolling Hills Estates; Daily, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Take another look at your surroundings as photographer Barry Markowitz shares his images of Echo Park, Downtown, Angelino Heights, Chinatown and the sidewalks in between. Photos were taken of street corners, buildings, homes, construction and destruction.

TASTE AT THE BEACH

Where/When: Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach; Sunday, 3-7 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy an afternoon of great food and wine from local restaurants as well as live jazz from the Brian Sisson Trio.

Pricing: $60

HOPS FOR HEALTH

Where/When: Red Car Brewery and Restaurant, 1266 Sartori Ave., Torrance; Sunday, 4 p.m.

Why Go: This one's just for the guys! The "men-only" event aims to raise awareness about Prostate Cancer and collect funds for the cause. There will be pub food, comedy, beer, a putting contest, and auctions. Proceeds benefit Cancer Support Community-Redondo Beach. Be sure to make a reservation!
