Weekend: Halloween Spooktacular in RPV

Halloween Spooktacular

Where and when: Noon to 2 p.m. (pumpkin racer building workshop begins as early as 11 a.m.); Saturday; , 30940 Hawthorne Blvd. in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Why go: Events at the Spooktacular include pumpkin races, kid and pet costume parades, a pumpkin pie contest, carved pumpkin contest, and more.

Cyclocross race

Where and when: Check here for detailed start times, some races start as early as 9 a.m.; Sunday; the event will be held on the field near Lunada Bay at 2020 Palos Verdes Drive West.

Why go: Check out and participate in this off-road sport that's part obstacle course.

Price: Registration for junior men and women (ages 10-14 and 15-18) and kids race ages 10 and under is free. Registration for adult categories is $23. Registration for Ultra Cross is $30.


Where and when: 9 p.m.; Saturday; , 142 Pacific Coast Hwy. in Hermosa Beach.

Why go: Rock out with new band Mansions on the Moon, who have collaborated with N*E*R*D, DJ Benzi and Chiddy Bang’s Xaphoon Jones.

Where and when: All day; Friday-Sunday; , 1100 North Harbor Dr. in Redondo Beach.

Why go: The event will feature five fine art galleries showcasing new art by local and visiting artists.

Where and when: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday; , 1705 South Catalina Ave. in Redondo Beach.

Why go: It's an interactive art walk featuring local South Bay artists representing different types of media in business locations throughout the Riviera Village.
