Watch Out for High Surf Until Friday

Waves with highs of 11 feet are expected to hit the Southern California coast beginning Wednesday night, the National Weather Service warns.

A high surf advisory will be in effect along the Southern California coast from 5 p.m. tonight until Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles.

The Weather Service issued an advisory alerting SoCal residents of a storm along the New Zealand coast that is expected to produce large swells in the South Bay.

The swells—predicted to hit the local shoreline Wednesday night—will have a period of around 20 seconds, producing breaks that could reach up to 11 feet during peak times. Breakers of 7-9 feet are possible during peak times Thursday.
