Redondo Celebrates State Basketball Title on 'Sea Hawk Day': With cheers from the audience, Mayor Mike Gin officially declared Thursday as "Redondo Union High School Sea Hawks Boys Varsity Basketball Day." The proclamation came during a rally in honor of the California Division II basketball championship team.

Mayor Gin Delivers Final State of the City Address: Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin gave his final State of the City address Thursday—themed "The Ship the Community Built." The speech, which was punctuated with multiple rounds of applause and finished with a standing ovation, outlined some of the trials and accomplishments of the last several years.

Dead Risso's Dolphin Washes Ashore: A dead Risso's dolphin measuring approximately 10 feet in length washed ashore at Torrance Beach on Wednesday.  The dolphin, which is part of one of the larger species of dolphins, had been spotted over the past few days by paddlers around Flat Rock.

City Looks at Renaming Torrance Boulevard: Renaming Torrance Boulevard to something promoting the Redondo Beach waterfront would cost the city about $7,078, according to a staff report from the city of Redondo Beach.

Redondo Gains Japanese Sister City: Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin and Itoman City Mayor Hirotsune Uehara in Okinawa, Japan signed official "Friendship Pledges" to cement the sister city relationship between the two municipalities Tuesday night.

23 Trees to Fall for New Library Building: Only one tree of 36 will remain when the new Los Angeles County Library in Manhattan Beach is completed sometime in 2015, according to the Environmental Impact Report Addendum produced for the effort.

Investigation of Registered Sex Offender Continues: Manhattan Beach police detectives continue to investigate a 30-year-old Redondo Beach man they arrested earlier this month for allegedly annoying or molesting children, and stalking.

DA Declines to File Burglary Charges on Male Intruder Suspect: The man who is believed to have awakened a woman in her bedroom around 4 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day will not face a burglary charge in the incident. Because the woman could not identify the suspect or evidence to prove that he was in the house, the District Attorney declined to file a burglary charge.

American Farmhouse's Orlando Novoa Not Through Yet: If you don't get to American Farmhouse Tavern & Dining Hall for a meal before April 8, you'll have to travel to San Luis Obispo to enjoy Orlando Novoa's Santa Maria-inspired fare. That's because the Manhattan Beach resident is selling his Sepulveda Blvd. location to a family of restaurateurs who want to open a second Cantina Real in the Beach Cities.

: Hermosa Beach mayor Kit Bobko delivered the annual State of the City address Wednesday evening touching on multiple issues surrounding the small beach community including the Macpherson oil settlement, future city development and the city budget.

Police Using YouTube to Deter Teen Partying on July 4: The Hermosa Beach Police Department is looking for local teenagers to star in the department's upcoming public service announcement videos addressing the Fourth of July, teenagers and rowdy behavior in Hermosa Beach. The YouTube videos are part of the city's larger efforts to ensure the July 4th holiday is not a repeat of last year's celebrations on the beach.

: After a nearly year-long process, new waste hauler and street sweeping contracts with Athens Services were unanimously approved by the Hermosa Beach City Council Tuesday evening. Tuesday's approval means that Hermosa Beach will now officially adopt a new system of waste disposal as well as a new rate structure when Athens begins its services on July 1.

Palos Verdes

Peninsula Center Sold for $87.3 Million: The Peninsula Shopping Center in Rolling Hills Estates has been sold for $87.3 million in an all-cash transaction, the purchasers announced in a news release Monday. In a joint venture, Phoenix-based real estate company Vestar and UBS Global Asset Management acquired the 300,000-square-foot retail center.

Planned Power Outages Expected During Edison Upgrades: Planned power outages, lane closures and occasional traffic delays are expected in Rancho Palos Verdes over the next two months as Southern California Edison crews continue work on a $2.2 million utility infrastructure upgrade. The upgrades, which began this week and will take until the beginning of June to complete.

Palos Verdes Estates Council Elects New Mayor: Palos Verdes Estates has a new mayor. The city council unanimously elected now-Mayor Jim Goodhart to the position on Tuesday, the Palos Verdes Peninsula News reported. Ellen Perkins was unanimously elected mayor pro tem
