Redondo Beach

After surviving a 6,500-mile journey from China trapped in a cargo container, Ni Hao, the , had just seven more miles to travel Thursday to his new home in Redondo Beach. Ni Hao, Mandarin for "hello," has been recuperating from his near-death experience for almost two months at the Carson Animal Shelter and was adopted Thursday by Redondo Beach residents Kathleen Shaver and Harvey Hettick.

: The sounds of a helicopter and booming loudspeaker woke up many South Redondo Beach residents early Wednesday morning as police searched for a possible burglar on the Esplanade.

: Though the Redondo Beach City Council voted 3-1 Tuesday night in favor of passing an ordinance that would reduce the hours of operation for leaf blowers within city limits, Mayor Mike Gin indicated that he may veto the measure due to the lack of outreach performed by city staff prior to the vote.

Hermosa Beach

: A fight at Pier Plaza involving as many as 10 individuals late Sunday night resulted in two being stabbed outside a bar, according to Hermosa Beach Police Detective Mick Gaglia. One of the suspects, Dimetrick Richmond, 26, of Whittier, was arrested under suspicion of attempted murder a few blocks away after police responded to the 11:40 p.m. Sunday call.

: Christobal Garcia, 21, of San Pedro was arrested for an alleged robbery around 2:46 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of 21st Street, said Detective Mick Gaglia of the Hermosa Beach Police Department. Garcia and another suspect allegedly physically assaulted a man and took his wallet. Gaglia said force was used but no weapon was found when Garcia was arrested.

: American Junkie and Sharkeez on Pier Avenue were recently closed by the County of Los Angeles Public Health department for violations.

Manhattan Beach

: A great white shark was hooked by an angler on the Manhattan Beach Pier Tuesday, and released after the fisherman realized he had a protected species on his line. The shark was an estimated 8-9 feet, said Eric Martin, marine biologist and director of  located at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier.

: Two Manhattan Beach Police officers have been promoted to lieutenant.  Officers Christian Eichenlaub and Ryan Small were acknowledged during a promotion ceremony last week.

: A gray whale was freed Thursday afternoon near the Manhattan Beach Pier from a rope tightly wound around its tail after Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol officers spotted it, the Daily Breeze reported Thursday.

Palos Verdes

: The city of Rolling Hills Estates began removing California pepper trees along Palos Verdes Drive North on Wednesday and planting new trees in their place. The trees have been at the center of a controversy in Rolling Hills Estates. While the city says the trees are diseased, opponents of tree removal point out that an arborist told members of the Parks and Activities Commission that California pepper trees generally "outgrow their illnesses."

: The now has a new address thanks to a resolution adopted by the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council on Tuesday night. Ocean Trails Drive, which serves as the entrance to the golf club, was renamed Trump National Drive in a 4 to 1 vote by the council. The rename marks the end of an eight-year effort by the Trump Organization to have the stretch of road named after the club.
