The Year's Top Story: Student's Death a 'Tragic Loss'

In the past week, Palos Verdes Patch looked back on the top stories of 2011.

From a shooting to sex charges, the most popular articles often involved crime in the community.

An article that of a student killed in a rainy morning crash in Rolling Hills Estates was the year's most read story.

Annamay Naef, 16, died in an early morning crash Oct. 5. Naef was a passenger in a car driven by another Peninsula High student when the car hit a pole as they headed to school.

The community later gathered for a to remember Naef.

"We wish to express our deepest condolences to the family for the terrible loss of their precious daughter and fellow Panther," Mitzi Cress, the high school's principal, said in an email following the crash. "This is a tragic loss for our entire school community."
