Strong SoCal Winds Expected Through Friday

The National Weather Service issues a high wind warning Thursday, which will remain in effect until noon Friday.

The National Weather Service expects strong wind gusts that pummeled many parts of the South Bay Wednesday to stick around until midday Friday.

The service issued a high wind warning on Thursday that remains in effect until noon Friday, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 40 miles per hour and gusts at about 60 miles per hour.

"[A] very strong wind event with damaging winds" is likely in parts of Southwestern California, the NWS said in its warning statement.

Winds will remain strong through Friday morning, with weaker winds expected Thursday afternoon and evening.

The strong winds could down trees and power lines, in addition to cause dangerous driving conditions and create flying debris, the NWS warned.

The combination of a cold low pressure system near Las Vegas and strong surface high pressure over the Great Basin has produced the offshore winds, according to the NWS.

Temperatures in Palos Verdes are expected in the upper 60s through the weekend, with breezy conditions forecast for Thursday afternoon.
