Small Earthquake Strikes South Bay

The earthquake, which struck under Hawthorne, was felt in Redondo Beach, El Segundo and Beverly Hills.

A magnitude-2.8 earthquake struck the South Bay late Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake, which shook at 10:33 p.m., had an epicenter 11 miles below Hawthorne, according to the USGS.

People in Beverly Hills, El Segundo and Redondo Beach reported feeling the earthquake to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Shortly after the earthquake occurred, locals flooded Twitter with tweets about the event, causing one Hawthorne resident to say, "When people feel an Earthquake, the first thing they think of is tweet. That's crazy."

Two people on Twitter who indicated they were in Redondo Beach said the earthquake felt like a "jolt."
