'Ride for Kids' Could Bring Traffic Delays

The ride benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation will wind through several South Bay cities.

Drivers on certain stretches of road in Palos Verdes and other South Bay cities will face 10- to 15-minute delays Sunday morning as up to 1,000 motorcyclists escorted by 40-50 police officers participate in the Los Angeles Ride for Kids.

"Among the riders will be Ride for Kids 'Stars'—children who are fighting or have fought brain tumors—and their families, who will ride in motorcycle sidecars or as passengers on two-person motorcycles," according to a news release from L.A. Ride for Kids.

The ride, which starts at 10 a.m., begins and ends at the American Honda Motor Company headquarters in Torrance, according to the news release. Drivers planning to travel from 10-11:30 a.m. should leave 20 minutes early in case they encounter the procession.

The annual event, now in its 20th year, raises money and awareness for children with brain tumors. Proceeds from the event benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's medical research grants and family support programs.

Last year's ride raised more than $250,000 for the foundation, which is dedicated to researching childhood brain tumors. Rides across the country have raised more than $54 million cumulatively.

Motorcyclists interested in participating in this year's Los Angeles-area ride on Sunday can register 8-10 a.m. at the Honda campus, located at 1919 Torrance Boulevard in Torrance.
