Rain, Cooler Temperatures Expected for Rest of Week

Heaviest rain likely on Wednesday and Friday, according to National Weather Service.

Showers were in the forecast for the coming days along with a wave of cooler temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

The National Weather Service said to expect rain on Wednesday continuing into Thursday, when it's set to taper off in the morning. Temperatures were expected to reach a high of 59 degrees on Wednesday and 62 degrees on Thursday.

An 80 percent chance of showers was forecast for late Friday afternoon, with highs near 62 degrees. Showers appeared likely on Saturday with highs near 58 degrees.

Overnight temperatures for the rest of the week were expected to hover in the low 50s.

The rain was expected to be at its heaviest on Wednesday and Friday.

A "coastal hazard" message from the weather service warned residents in portions of Los Angeles County of higher than normal surf of three to six feet. The highest waves were expected across west-facing beaches from Santa Monica southward to Palos Verdes. The message also warned of an increased threat of strong rip currents.

With the rain will likely come snow at elevations of 4,000 feet and higher, according to the weather service.

The weather service also cautioned Southern California residents about strong, gusty winds predicted for Wednesday afternoon and evening in the passes and mountains, where snow was expected to fall as low as 4,000 feet.
