Monday's Storm Causes Increase in Traffic Accidents

The number of traffic collisions increased Monday, authorities said.

Monday's that dropped about a half-inch of rain also contributed to an increase in freeway accidents, authorities said.

There were 81 accidents reported on freeways in Los Angeles County between 5 and 9 a.m., compared with 47 on a dry Monday two weeks ago, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jennifer Connelly.

Last Monday's commute was not statistically comparable because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
