Hundreds of Goats Graze at Portuguese Bend Reserve

The goats will graze on weeds to help restore fire-damaged land.

Portuguese Bend Reserve will host some important visitors for the next three weeks.

More than 400 goats arrived at the reserve Wednesday to help with a Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy restoration project by grazing on weeds in a 12-acre area. The conservancy hopes to turn what is now a weedy hillside into native coastal sage scrub and grassland habitats.

The goats are located between Peacock Flats and Burma Road trails.

Most trails will remain open throughout the project, but the Peacock Flats Trail might be closed at times.

The conservancy warned visitors to avoid an electric fence surrounding the goats. More information can be found on its website.
