Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

SOUTH COAST BOTANIC GARDEN 

Where/When: South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos Verdes Peninsula, daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: More than 2,500 plant species, plus birds, wildlife and a picnic area. Get out into the sunshine!

Pricing: $4

KIDS CHESS 

Where/When: Malaga Cove Library, 2400 Via Campesina, Palos Verdes Estates, 2-5 p.m. Feb. 19.

Why Go: Kids and teens ages 8-16 are invited for chess instruction followed by time to play.

Pricing: Free

FARMERS MARKET 

Where/When: Hawthorne Blvd. and Silver Spur Road, Palos Verdes Peninsula, 90274 (Peninsula Shopping Center), 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 20.

Why Go: Fresh, organic, tasty fruits and veggies.

Pricing: Free

SUNDAY STORY STUDIO 

Where/When: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, 3720 Stephen M. White Dr., San Pedro, 1:45-2:45 p.m. Feb. 20.

Why Go: Once a month, volunteers and staff of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium read stories and poems about the wonders of the ocean. (Meet in the exhibit hall.)

 • BARNEY BEAR STORYTIME 

Where/When: Peninsula Center Library, 701 Silver Spur Rd., Rolling Hills Estates, Wednesday, 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Why Go: Puppet 'Barney the Bear' sings songs and tells stories for children ages 2-5.

Pricing: Pick up free tickets at the Library’s Young Readers Desk 15 minutes prior to the storytime you would like to attend.
