Friday Rain to Give Way to Saturday Sun

The Palos Verdes Peninsula sees rain, hail and sun throughout the day on Friday.

A cold winter storm brought the Southland showers and high winds Friday and a spike in crashes on Southland roadways.

Sunny weather and higher temperatures were forecast for the weekend.

The National Weather Service did not have official rainfall totals for the Palos Verdes Peninsula; however, a reported .68 of an inch was recorded in Torrance in the 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m.

Hail was also reported in the area.

California Highway Patrol Officer Ming Hsu said that between midnight and 9 a.m. today, there were 312 reports of accidents on Los Angeles freeways and other L.A. County roads patrolled by the CHP. A week ago during that same time period, when it did not rain, there were 83 reports of accidents, he said.

The forecast high for Saturday is 61 degrees and 71 degrees for Sunday.
