Christmas Tree Recycling in Palos Verdes

How to recycle you Christmas tree in Palos Verdes after the holidays.

With the holiday season coming to a close, cities in Palos Verdes are encouraging residents to recycle their Christmas trees for free in the coming weeks.

At least three local trash collection services offer Christmas tree pickup at no additional charge:

Rancho Palos Verdes (Dec. 26 - Jan. 11)

EDCO, the city's waste hauler, will collect trees from the curbs of single family residences on regular collection days starting on Dec. 26 and ending on Jan. 11.

The waste hauler requires that all trees be free of decorations and tree stands before pickup. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half.

All trees should be placed in the green recycling carts or bundled together for collection. If bundled, the bundle should not exceed 4 feet by 18 inches.

Flocked trees as well as other organic decorations will also be collected from the designated yard waste container.

Rolling Hills Estates (Dec. 26 - Jan. 16)

Residents can recycle their Christmas trees by placing them at the curb on regularly scheduled trash collection days. Waste Management will collect the trees Dec. 26 through Jan. 16.

All decorations, tree stands, plastic containers and tinsel must be removed from the tree before collection. Flocked trees will be accepted.

Palos Verdes Estates (Dec. 26 - Jan. 11)

Athens will pick up trees from the curb Dec. 26 through Jan. 11 on regular trash pickup days. 

The same rules apply for the other Palos Verdes cities -- no decorations, no tree stands and trees over 6 feet tall must be cut in half.

For those who miss the tree pickup time frame, trees can be cut into pieces and placed in yard waste containers.
