What's on in Rugby?

Peninsula Youth Sports Update: Rugby is rockin' the Hill.

From Coach Jeremy:

Rugby is the fastest growing sport in the USA and we anticipate over 5,000 youth Rugby players participating in the 2012/2013 season in Southern California alone from the age of 7 years up to 18. Last HS season we had 23 HS Varsity teams in the Southern California League and we anticipate 30 plus HS Varsity teams this year.

The USA is the most successful nation in Olympic Rugby tournaments and the USA won Gold in 1920 and 1924 and remain as the reigning Olympic champions (as Rugby was dropped as an Olympic Sport in 1924).

Due to popular demand, Rugby is being reintroduced to the Olympics in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

PV Rugby was formed in 2010 as a Combined HS Club team. More than 100 kids have already gone through our program in 3 years.  We focus on the integration of high standards in education, sport and personal ethics for High School students and help in developing their college options.

Colleges such as Notre Dame are now offering full ride Rugby Scholarships for the first time.  This Season, as of today JV is 5-0 with an unbeaten record and Varsity is 3-2 after beginning the season with losses their first two games. Last Saturday both our teams were victorious against Tesoro HS ( Las Flores, CA) on their turf with final scores of; JV 39-24: Varsity 57-12.  On December 18th at Malaga Cove we played Citrus Valley HS (Redlands, CA) and again won both games with JV 55-5 and Varsity 51-22.

Our students are all terrific athletes and admirable school community members, what's more our team brings together and unites both public High Schools (PV and Peninisula) these students and their parents under One Team Banner- PV Rugby - Our Motto: "One Hill One Team!"
