Blog: Peninsula Education Foundation Receives $105K From Skechers Foundation

Skechers Walk Raises $105,000 for Peninsula Education Foundation

The Peninsula Education Foundation was proud to receive a check in the amount of $105,000 in recognition of its participation in the annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk at a recent reception at Skecher’s headquarters in Manhattan Beach.

Peninsula Education Foundation friends and supporters participated in the annual walk which took place October 28, 2013. Proceeds from the event benefitted local school foundations like PEF, which help fill the ever widening funding gap in what the state provides the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.  Proceeds also benefit The Friendship Circle, which provides services for children and young adults with special needs.

Each year Skechers determines the amount of funding to local South Bay education foundations based on participation.  This year, over 2,700 PEF supporters walked from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back.

PEF Skechers Walk Chair Matthew Rener stated, “Our PVP community had the most walkers of any South Bay education foundation, thus we received a check in the amount of $105,000. They say it takes a village, and we have a fabulous village!” PEF Executive Director Andrea Sala added, “The Skechers Walk is a wonderful way to participate together as a community toward a common goal of supporting our schools. This is a terrific grassroots effort!”

All of these funds go directly to the PVP school district to support smaller class sizes, important science and engineering programs, music, school counseling, and college and career center programs at all 17 public schools.  These important programs would be discontinued if not for PEF because the state does not allocate enough resources to pay for these programs that help our schools and students achieve academic excellence.

The Skechers Pier to Pier Walk proceeds will help the PEF reach its unprecedented $3 million goal for the 2012-2013 school year.  Please save the date for the Skechers 2013 Pier to Pier Walk on Sunday, Oct. 27, 9 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Donations can also be made to PEF through www.pvpef.org
