Paws with Needs

More than 10 dogs are up for adoption in nearby Rolling Hills Estates.

Continuing on my quest to find loving families for rescue dogs, this week I visited the dogs of Doggies 911/ Paws with Needs in Rolling Hills Estates.

All dogs have gone through a complete battery of tests, have been spayed or neutered and are now ready for their new homes. Since the dogs are rescues, their breeds and ages are estimates.

Wallace: A male Lab somewhere between 5-7 years old, Wallace wants nothing more than to be loved. Before I was even introduced, he came up to me and offered his shoulder for a good scratch. Wallace was found chained to a tree, abandoned by his previous owner. However, he doesn’t let his past experience sour his view of people. He is very friendly, mellow and lovable.

Tia: A 2-3-year-old female Shepherd mix, Tia and her sister, Mama Maria, were rescued from a hoarder who could no longer house the two. With a sweet disposition and an adorable face, Tia would be a great addition to any family.

Toby: The 10-year-old male Dachshund was rescued from an owner who overfed him. Because Toby has Cushing’s Disease, he is considered a ‘special needs’ dog. This means that his new owner must put him on a healthy diet.

Frankie: The male Dachshund/Chihuahua mix loves to burrow and put himself to bed. His quirky personality can brighten anyone’s day.

Pepper: The scruffy male Schnauzer/Poodle mix is about one-year-old.

Emmett: A tenacious one-year-old male Chihuahua/Pug mix.

Snickers: The 4-5-year-old female Cocker Spaniel is the only long-tailed Cocker Spaniel I’ve ever seen. Cocker Spaniels traditionally have their tails cut when they are only a few days old, but Snickers didn't. She is lovable, friendly and ready to come home with you.

Chaz: The 2-year-old male Collie/German Shepherd/Chow mix might be a little shy at first, but he will warm up to anyone. Except cats.

Frida: The 1-2-year-old female Beagle/Dachshund mix has already had a litter of puppies while still in puppy-hood herself. Her baby days are over and her pups have all found new homes. Now she just needs to find a home for herself.

Heidi: The one and a half-year-old female Chihuahua is such a kisser, I could not get a photo without her kissing a volunteer. What a lover.

Pippie: The one and a half-year-old female Cattledog/Lab mix was the calmest dog at the adoption event. She managed to contain her composure while all her dog-friends were barking and sniffing out the prospective new owners.

Simba: The 1-2-year-old male Pomeranian/Corgi mix is the sweetest king of the pack. With a name like Simba, how could he not be?

Lola: The one-year-old female Beagle/Terrier mix is yet another one of the major kissers in the bunch. While photographing the dogs, she was napping and when we woke her for her close-up, she greeted us with sleepy kisses.

Mama Maria: The one and a half-year-old female Lab/Shepherd mix, and sister of Tia, is yet another puppy who has had a litter of puppies. She was left in the desert by her previous owners. Luckily, Doggies 911 rescued her and now all her pups are doing well in their new homes. She is very sweet and loving.
