Map: Palos Verdes Unemployment Rates Among Lowest in State

To see April unemployment rates across the state, click on towns on the map below. The light green are the lowest, the dark red, the highest.

Unemployment dipped in California in April from a 9.4 percent to a 9 percent seasonally adjusted rate, with jobless rates on the Palos Verdes Peninsula coming in as some of the lowest in the state, according to recently released figures from the California Employment Development Department.

The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.5 percent in April.

Rolling Hills' non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate was the lowest on the peninsula, dropping from 1.7 percent in March to 1.6 percent in April. Palos Verdes Estates had the second-lowest jobless rate at 2.1 percent. 

The cities of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes also had low unemployment rates at 2.7 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively.  

Seasonal adjustment accounts for seasonal shifts in labor such as increased construction and agricultural work in spring and summer. Only non-seasonally adjusted figures are available for individual cities.

Conversely, the bright red cities have unemployment rates at least 50 percent higher than state average, and the lighter red cities are between.
