Gas Watch: Prices Decline as Thanksgiving Week Begins

At $3.80 a gallon in most areas, gas prices this week were the highest ever before Thanksgiving, according to a Thursday report from the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.816 per gallon, which is five cents lower than last week, six cents lower than last month, and 66 cents higher than last year.

In San Diego, the price is $3.80, a decrease of 4.9 cents from last week, seven cents below last month, and 64 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.876, down 3.5 cents from last week, three cents lower than a month ago, and 70 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.803, down three cents from last week, four cents lower than last month, and 66 cents more than last year.

“Southern California gas price averages have remained above $3.75 a gallon in most areas since the end of August,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Heading into Thanksgiving week, at least so far we are continuing to see daily price declines.”
