Gas Prices Take a Slight Dip

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County fell six-tenths of a cent today to $4.276.

This is the the fourth consecutive slight decrease after rising 43 times in 45 days.

The average price is seven-tenths of cent less than one week ago, but 11.3 cents more than one month ago and $1.125 greater than it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price fell two-tenths of a cent Saturday, three-tenths of a cent Sunday and four-tenths of a cent Monday.

According to MapQuest, the lowest price for gas in the U.S. is $3.36, in Casper, Wy., and the highest is $5.42 in Kaunakakai, Hawaii.

"In a reversal of what analysts and pundits were warning just a month ago, oil prices are falling and predictions are for $3.50 per gallon gas by June, just in time for summer driving," David Kiley at AOL Autos said.

"The price of a barrel of oil dropped by $9.44 on May 5 alone, lowering the price below $100 per barrel for the first time in two months," he said. "Some analysts are saying that we may see some relief at the pump, with prices dropping to an average of $3.75 per gallon by Memorial Day, and $3.50 by mid-summer."
