Gas Prices Rise Above $4

Average gas prices are more than $4 per gallon in California, at about $4.04, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

That's about five cents more than one week ago, at $3.99 for a gallon of regular gas. One year ago, average prices were about $3.10, according to the report.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.055 per gallon, which is 6.8 cents more than last week, 29 cents higher than last month, and 96 cents higher than last year, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.

According to MapQuest, the lowest price for gas in the U.S. is $3.09, in Ketchum, Okla., and the highest is here in California—$5.40 in Death Valley.
