Redondo Man Paints PV Mural

A mural in the Golden Cove Shopping Center was painted by a Redondo Beach resident.

Drivers exiting the Golden Cove Shopping Center in Rancho Palos Verdes may do a double-take if they leave through the driveway next to the Admiral Risty. The once-blank wall along the exit now sports a trio of bicyclists.

Each of the cyclists—two men and one woman—sports a helmet and bicycling outfits.

The man behind the mural, which was painted over the summer, is Redondo Beach resident Loren Clapp, formerly the CEO graphics arts coordinator for Los Angeles County.

Clapp is perhaps most known for designing the current Los Angeles County seal, according to his biography on the Walker Artist Group website. "I thought it would be really quite simple, when in fact it took over 30 designs to come up with the final," he said.

Clapp received his bachelor's degree from UCLA in painting, sculpture and graphic arts, and a master's of fine arts in painting from the Pratt Institute in New York City.
