Docent Council Meeting

The Palos Verdes Art Center is looking for a few new docent volunteers. Those interested in becoming volunteer gallery docents are invited to the 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011, Docent Council meeting at
the Palos Verdes Art Center, Promenade on the Peninsula, 550 Deep Valley Drive, Suite 261, Rolling Hills Estates.

Docents are volunteer educators working in the Art Center galleries, discussing exhibitions with visitors and leading student and group tours. Their mission is to help
visitors appreciate and understand the exhibitions. Docents should have a desire to learn more about art, but they do not need prior experience in art history or the studio arts.

Docent training includes general background information
about art, including art history and art-making techniques, plus specific tips on how to teach both adults and children. Training occurs as part of regular
Docent Council meetings on the first Tuesday morning of each month from September through May. In addition, there are field trips to area museums and opportunities to meet artists showing their work in Palos Verdes Art Center
exhibitions. In return, Palos Verdes Art Center docent volunteers receive private pre-opening exhibition tours, led by the curator or exhibiting artist,
as well as discounts on one Palos Verdes Art Center art class! Those interested in learning more about the docent program can contact Gail Phinney, 310-541-2479
